Medical imaging refers to any technique or process that is used to create an image of the human body. Medical imaging is normally done for clinical purposes and is considered to be a part of biological imaging. The field of medical imaging incorporates medical photography, radiology, investigative radiological sciences, nuclear medicine, endoscopy, microscopy, and thermography. There are various techniques used for medical imaging some of which include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and electrocardiography (EKG), and ultrasound.

Types of Medical Imaging

Electrocardiography – A basic and easy to understand explanation of an electrocardiogram or EKG.

MRI – An explanation of what happens during magnetic resonance imaging, a noninvasive test that helps physicians diagnose conditions.

EEG – An introduction to electroencephalography including information on risks, preparation, the procedure, aftercare, and more.

Radiography – A great explanation of radiology from the US Food and Drug Administration, radiography covers xrays, fluoroscopy, mammography and more.

Ultrasound Imaging – A general overview of the use of ultrasound imaging and how it works.

Nuclear Medicine – An easy to understand explanation of nuclear medicine imaging, also called radionuclide scanning.

Photoacoustic Imaging – An in-depth explanation of photoacoustic imaging, a relatively new hybrid of biomedical imaging.

Breast Thermography – Some information on breast thermography and how it is used in the screening and early detection of breast cancer.

Computed Tomography – Some information on computed tomography or CT scans.

Radiography Careers – Some information on the career opportunities for those working in the field of radiography.

X-Rays – An in-depth yet easy to understand explanation of xrays and their use and history.

Radiography – Information on the Radiography Journal, including some sample issues, articles, and information on how to submit an article.

Radiology – A monthly radiology journal featuring information on clinical radiology.

RSNA – The website of the Radiological Society of North America, with education materials, publications, and information on membership.

Medical Imaging

MITA – An overview of the medical and financial advantages of medical imaging from the Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance.

Imaging Economics – A website dedicated to helping those working in the field of radiology provide quality imaging for their patients.

Medical Imaging – Information on some of the latest research news in the field of medical imaging.

Medical Imaging Career – An overview of careers within the field of medical imaging including salary information and education requirements.

What Is Medical Imaging? – A brief explanation of medical imaging including equipment used.

Diagnostic Imaging – The website of the Diagnostic Imaging magazine, featuring radiology, ultrasound, CT, and xray news and resources.
